Hi there, I am Stacey and here is my own story...

South Austin Stretch and Massage

Let's get to know each other...

I love life!  And yes, this is me trying on hats while on vacation in Mexico! My philosophy is, if it isn't fun, I don't need to do it.

Learning wasn't easy for me and I dropped out of college after 2 years. I worked as a secretary then promoted to administrative assistant for the computer department of an international corporation, then assistant to a national bank VP during a time when everyone was converting to something called Electronic Funds Transfer. I was deeply involved with that until I married and began a family in 1986. Computers turned out to be something I was good with and when my children were ready for pre-school, I took a part time job so we could afford to send them to pre-school and give them summer camp experiences.

    I WANTED SOMETHING MORE

I wanted a career I could be passionate about and dedicate my whole being into. Being a part time bookkeeper with “mother’s hours” was boring and offered no growth. A friend who had recently graduated from massage school practiced her skills on me and, despite my misgivings about being a "good student", I was convinced to sign up for the full 500-hour experience. At that time only 300 hours was required for licensure in my state. If you know me, if I'm in for a penny, I'm in for a pound!

As an introverted person, I learned I am empathetic (also called empathic) and I could feel other people’s emotions. What I wasn’t sure I would ever be able to feel were the muscles beneath the skin! I had little confidence in the beginning.

    MY SPECIAL SAUCE

I immediately learned that “deep tissue”, the thing we seemed to concentrate on the most because that’s what client’s would ask for, was deeply misunderstood and something I did not like to receive. Along with my emotions, my body is much too sensitive for that kind of bodywork. Before I even graduated from school, I got involved in Texas politics regarding massage therapy. Through my connections, I met a teacher who did gentle bodywork to relieve pain and I studied with him for many years.

That work became my “special sauce. Clients with pain started referring me to their friends and my massage therapy business steadily grew from there.
